? Move Photos To Flickr.
Hi , I am running out of hard drive space on my laptop , a lot of space is taken up by me and my wife's family photos, I have seen on Flickr that you get 1Tb of free space of storeage , is it really as simple as that or is there a catch / something I am missing , as the free space on my hard drive would be very welcoming .

Buy an external hard drive and make a copy of all the photos on the external hard drive. That will be your backup.
Secondly, make sure that your laptop hard disk has not got empty space on it.
Many laptops come with the hard disk split into two sections (called partitions) usually called C and D.
You may have a D partition sitting there with no data in it so you can move your photos to there. Note sometimes D is your CD/DVD drive so you need to ensure D is a hard disk partition before you copy photos to it.
Also note that when uploading photos to the web some web sites do reduce the quality of the photos to make them smaller (I am not sure if Flickr do this) so if your only copy is on Flickr you may never have your photos at best quality.
I think the best thing you can do is buy TWO external hard drives.
First COPY all the photos to one of them, and this can be your backup.
Then MOVE all your photos to the other one, and this can be the one that you use when you want to see your photos. This will free up space on your laptop.
Nowadays I think it is vital for everyone to have at least one external hard drive, perhaps two or more, as you can never have too many backups.
You can buy an external hard drive for around £50 or so from Argos, PC World, and other similar shops.
