Batter Bits Or Scraps?

When in a fish and chip shop, do you ask for batter bits or do you call them scraps? Or anything else?

Also does these vary between region?

When I was younger (and had a better digestion) a favourite snack after a few pints was a portion of chips and 'scraps' with plenty of salt and vinegar. I would imagine they are still available.

I was at Birmingham Airport a few weeks ago and the pub was selling home cooked pork crackling in pint glasses for £1.99.
I was tempted.

In Devon we called them "Gribbles" as kids we loved a bag of gribbles with our 6 penneth of chips!

6 penneth = 6 pence, or for you youngsters = 2.5 new pence

We used to have a fish and chip van that came round on Fridays when I was a child. The local kids would always scrounge scraps from the chip man.

As a kid we knew them as 'scratchings'. Not had them in years though, I have a lightly battered fish whenever I do venture to the chippy.
I'm remarkably restrained considering I have one 30 yards from my front door!

As kids(in North London) we called them scratchings as well.Always bought some on the way home from the Sunnyfields fishie after Saturday morning pictures at the Odeon Brent St.Long since gone.Happy,fatty days!!!

When I first met my husband, who owned a fish shop, he asked me to help him out one day, customer came in and asked for one of each and scraps, I thought they wanted one of everything and didn't have a clue what scraps were, maybe the bits of fish that he had cut off to throw away, being in North Yorkshire I soon learned.
