Hi
I have 2 drives C+D both 40 Gig
My C drive is almost full only 540 MB free whereas my D drive has 22 Gig free
I have done all the usual photo`s, downloads videos etc to D.
I went into Programs and sent all none essential (or so I think) to D such as Norton 360 Open Office Adobe etc etc and were sent to D.
When I tried to delete them from C it would not let me so I have them on D as well as C and cannot free up at least 3 Gig on my C drive.
Any suggestions

If you have moved all your personal files across and uninstall all unused application from C: and still have space issues then you may simply need a larger disk.

There are free programmes out there which will analyse you drive usage giving clues as to what you could remove.

Programmes ought not be moved really, they should be uninstalled from C: and reinstalled on D: if possible, as the registry may hold incorrect settings if you just move things across.

As you seem to have discovered, you can freely move photos, videos, documents, etc to anywhere you like (and delete unwanted copies).

However you can't do it with programs because the installation process will have updated the registry to tell it that they're located on Drive C. To move them you'll need to uninstall them (NOT DELETE THEM!) from Drive C and then reinstall them, taking care to change the file path shown during the set-up process to somewhere on Drive D.

Thanks to all for suggestions
You can move programs from the C: using junctions (as I do) but it's a touch too complex to deal with here - for further info do a search for details of the mklink dos command including the using of the /j parameter.
p.s. should have added that moving a program with mklink does not require it to be uninstalled first.
