My pc is running Windows XP for which Microsoft ceased support in April of this year. So why when I close down do I still occasionally receive a message that Windows is running an update to the system?

As far as I know they removed support, not updates. Do you have the latest update pre-April 2014?

Microsoft stopped updating XP in April

"technical assistance for Windows XP is no longer available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC."

I don't know why are still receiving the message.

Thanks Dizmo.
Yes, I have always loaded the updates before and after April 2014.
I still have Windows XP and it is running at snail pace. So many people who have xp are complaining of this fact - it MUST be a ploy to get us to have horrible Windows 8 - I will NOT be bullied into having this, but I am heartily sick of seeing the "egg timer!"
Can't decide whether it's Firefox playing up. I have re-set it twice but made no difference, also run CCleaner and Advanced System Care ....

The latest of these updates was only last week
There is nothing wrong with Windows 8.1. If you haven't tried it for a few weeks you can't really judge, listening to others who dislike it is a tad foolish, as not everyone likes the same things.
I was an early adopter of W8, before the official release and wouldn't go back to W7 or XP. I find it really fast and easy to use.
have you got firefox 33.0 ann
Although updates for Win XP have ceased you will still receive updates for other installed Microsoft products (e.g. Office, Silverlight, etc.) and the monthly Malicious Software Removal Tool.
