Notebook V Laptop

Please explain is there really a difference between a laptop and a notebook.

There is no difference between a notebook and a laptop.

In case you're confused a tablet, netbook, chromebook and notebook (laptop) are all different.

I've got a Netbook, and about the only major difference is a lack of an Optical Drive (CD). That and the 10.1" screen.

There is a difference. I am typing this on a small Acer Aspire ONE notebook, which I use when I am here in my caravan. Its screen is 10 inches by 6 inches, and is very neat indeed. But it doesn't have a DVD drive. Most laptops would have much bigger screens and all with come with a DVD drive.

I am not a huge fan of tablets I'm afraid. To me they are little more than toys. Having to use a virtual keyboard, instead of a proper one would drive me completely mad !

jno...yes, according to Acer ! I bought mine just before Comet went bust and had a really great deal. It has a AMD Dual Core C60 processor, 2GB of memory, and a whacking huge 320 GB HDD ! All this for less than £200, and they threw in a carrying case as well ! ( I had to buy a mouse though...
I can't stand these ruddy touch pads )

My first computer was a Pentium 75, which is a Reliant Robin compared today's computers. It had a speed of just 120 hz. I can't remember what the Hard Drive was but it was minuscule compared to today. But I thought it was the Bees Knees in 1994 !

The first laptop I used, a Toshiba, was given me by my employer and it had a black and white screen ! My nieces and nephews have no idea what B/W means or looks like.

goodness, even I've never heard of a b/w screen and I'm as technoprimitive as they come.

That employer of mine jno, was as parsimonious as it was possible to be, so no surprise about the B/W screen. I worked from home but went up to Town for the day, for a meeting. I left my pen at home and he SOLD me one so that I could make notes during the day. 20p as I recall. I think I could have rented one for the day instead and it would only have cost me 10P !

There is a tendency nowadays for manufacturers to use the word Notebook instead of Laptop. Very sensible I think because using a portable computer on one's lap is inviting the appliance to become damaged by overheating.

One should always avoid all soft surfaces such as cushions, bedclothes, etc. which can cause vents to become obstructed; with dire consequences.
