I pay for AVG Virus protection (not the free one) and for years I have had no complaints but over the past few weeks, everytime I open my laptop I get AVG window open stating:-
Adware Generics5.ciuu c:\users\angela\app data\roaming\betcat\dat\cst.exe
AVG proceed to clear it but it is annoying that I have to keep repeating the same thing every time I use my laptop.
Can anyone tell me how I can eliminate this problem please? I believe it is only a form of advertising adware but annoying all the same. Thanks in advance. Tel

My guess is that you may have recently downloaded some free software such as a video recording/streaming programme and some malware has come along with it. It is important that you remove immediately what has been identified by your AVG as Generic 5 because it is a Browser Hijacker.

Download and run a Scan with the free edition of Malwarebytes; making sure that you Do Not accept a trial run of the Premium edition. Untick boxes as appropriate for anything other than Free Malwarebytes.

Hans.

It's probably that Angela that downloaded it ;-)

Sometimes you need to find the thing that is re-downloading it each time.

Thank you both. I followed HansUrbancka's recommendation and all seems to be ok today. There had been 7 blips. Also read article from Old Geezer too. Thanks Guys
Thanks telboy for having awarded me 'Best Answer'.

Glad everything now appears to be Ok.

Worthwhile and costs nothing to do a scan once a week with Malwarebytes.

Hans.
yes, it is adware which automatically get downloaded from internet. In some website it will not even show the status of installation. Simply you will get the popup ads alone with the regular warning if you had antivirus on your machine.
