Mcafee Removed - Now Faster!!
6 Answers
Although my laptop is 4gb itwas getting slower and slower! I took McAfee as a free offer when I bought my laptop from Currys and now a year later the renewal is £70 so I ditched it and installed Avast which had a good write up, the laptop has speeded up a lot as McAfee was continuously downloading and installing all sorts!
What do you all think of this?
Secondly a funny thing has happened - my battery was only charging to 79% for ages and despite altering this in BIOS nothing changed. Now........when installing Avast it did a complete scan of my laptop and came up with lots of faults especially in the registry which McAfee did not. I do not mess with registry as I am not confident enough but after fixing them automatically the next time I booted up the battery levels had reverted to 100%!!
Any remarks would be appreciated especially re. McAfee (does it over compensate?)

CNET (aka download. com) are notorious for covertly downloading Adware and Malware along with legitimate downloads. Suggest you use Malwarebytes Free to check for malware (but get it from malwarebytes .com not CNET or download. com). It is imperative that you use the McAfee Removal Tool from McAfee to remove McAfee Anti-virus or your next Anti-virus...

It's just a personal opinion but McAfee is an expensive waste of money. Avast is excellent and is Free for download from here :-

Thanks for the good advice - I had only removed McAfee using the Windows removal tools which I thought would be enough! However, following your instns I downloaded the Free McAfee removal tool and did that.
Next I downloaded Free Malwarebytes from their own site and it took 27 mins to search thru and ended up with 41 items (mostly Registry faults) which it quarantined.
Hope this is all ok now and thanks again.
