Last evening when I booted up my laptop I was surprised to find the task bar had moved from the base of the screen to the left hand side (top to bottom). Puzzled I looked on google to see if there was any explanation why this had happened. While I was searching I spotted a web site saying that you could refresh Mazilla Firefox - so I did. Expecting to see a much better home page I realised that just the opposite had happened. I have managed to get the logos back ie Norton,IE11,Google Earth etc. All my favourites are still there. 2 requests - how do I get my toolbar back and how do I get the task bar back across the bottom of the screen. The only thing I did different yesterday was to set my HUDL 2 to BT Fon Wi Fi. Could this be the answer. Any help would be appreciated

Just click on the toolbar and drag it down to the bottom. I don't know about your toolbar

No. It's completely irrelevant to everything else you've written.

>>>how do I get the task bar back across the bottom of the screen

Click on a blank area of the taskbar and, keeping your mouse button held down, drag it to the bottom of your screen. Don't be surprised if that doesn't work straight away; it can be awkward. Simply repeat until you succeed. Then (to prevent your taskbar going for walkies in the future) right-click on it and select 'Lock the taskbar'.

>>>saying that you could refresh Mazilla Firefox - so I did

I'm assuming that you used the 'Refresh Firefox' button found when you access Troubleshooting Information from the Help menu. It's purpose is to take Firefox back to its 'factory settings' while still retaining certain important things (such as your bookmarks). It can be useful if Firefox is behaving oddly (such as after a malware attack). Here's what it retains and what it removes:

>>>how do I get my toolbar back

This is where things get tricky as there are countless toolbars that can be added to Firefox, all of which claim to enhance your browsing experience (although I wouldn't use any of them). If you're referring to one of those you'll need to go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions, search for the name of the relevant toolbar and install it.

However if you're referring to Firefox's own Bookmarks Toolbar (or possibly even to the menu bar) they can be toggled on and off by right-clicking at the top of your screen and putting a tick in the relevant box(es).

>>>Expecting to see a much better home page

Your home page is the one which you can get directly to by clicking on the 'house' symbol at the top right of your screen. (It's not necessarily the same as your start page, which is the one you first see when you open Firefox). You can make it whatever you like by simply navigating to your chosen page and then going to Tool > Options > General(tab) and clicking on 'Use Current Pages'. (If you've got more than one tab open when you do that, Firefox will open all those tabs when you click on the 'house' symbol).

If you want your home page to appear as your start page then again go to Tool > Options > General(tab) and set 'When Firefox starts' to 'Show my home page'. (I prefer to simply have a blank page displayed).

>>> I have managed to get the logos back ie Norton,IE11,Google Earth etc.

Those icons should be on your desktop and therefore have nothing whatsoever to do with Firefox! (I told you I was confused, didn't I?)

Many thanks for your comprehensive reply. Thanks to you I had fixed the toolbar. Am trying to drag down the task bar but so far unsuccessful. Will keep trying. (For had read have on line 1)
>>>Am trying to drag down the task bar but so far unsuccessful.

Check that it's not already locked. (Right-click on it. If 'unlock the taskbar' is shown, click on it).

My first attempt tonight was successful. This time I clicked low down on the taskbar rather than higher up. Moved immediately and then I was able to apply lock. Chuffed to bits. Thanks very much
