Is my computer too old to be wifi enabled? How would I check if it is?
I'll go with the dongle. Wouldn't want to risk opening the computer.

Don't get confused by dongles and wireless USB adaptors !
If you have a wireless router in the home, ( ie, a broadband Hub ) than you don't need a dongle ! Dongles are only necessary when you don't have internet access, like if you are using your computer away from the home.
I use a dongle in my caravan but its not needed in the house.
Sorry if the above may seem obvious, but I thought it might be useful to point out anyway !
