I am fast running out of patience with Kaspersky, in getting my problem with updating my anti-virus sorted out. They have asked me to unisntall my 2012 version and reinstall the new 2015 version.

I have successfully uninstalled the 2012, and I have downloaded the new 2015 version. But when I try to install this, I am getting an error message saying something like there is a problem with my Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, and its asking me to manually reinstall it. I have uninstalled this 4.5 thing and reinstalled it but the installation of the Kaspersky 2015 suite is not going ahead. I am still getting the message to reinstall the 4.5 thing.

As I will soon be driven mad by this circular tour around the mulberry bush, I am tempted to cut my losses and try Norton.

Does anybody have any tips about whether Norton is OK or not please ?

Ah ! ...no...should I have ?
I use Bullguard and find it very good, I pay for it though - however, they also offer a back-up service and that's useful for me....

I'm fed up DTC ! I am tempted to install Norton this afternoon, rather than faff about with Kaspersky any more. I used to use Norton years ago, and I am not sure I had much in the way of problems.
Ever thought of trying out one of the free ones?

But, uninstall Net Framework 4.5 and re-boot from cold, before re-installing the new version and then again do a cold boot and then re-install Kaspersky

SA...I tried that I just kept going around in circles ! Kaspersky kept blaming the 4.5 thing, and refused to install, so I kicked it into touch. I shan't use Kaspersky again.

I am still annoyed that they didn't tell me that the 2012 version wasn't going to have its databases updated when I renewed my subscription last month.
I use my PC all day, as I work from home and I just can't have any security problems. I have had viruses before and they have caused me serious problems, not to say expensive ones. My skill at sorting out software difficulties only goes so far and I can't be wasting time taking the flipping thing down to the PC repair chappie for him to fix !

So we shall see how it goes with Norton....fingers crossed !

But thanks Slacky !
I know some will disagree but I have never had the slightest problem with MSE and it's free.
I have always used AVG, and I surf a lot daily, and not had any issues.

It has picked up and zapped a couple of nasties, so I know it does the job.

The people who sold me my second PC put it on all theirs as a matter of course.

I have heard of running speed issues with Norton, none with AVG though.
When we renewed our anti virus recently we were advised against Norton or McAfee by our daughters partner (a bit of an IT expert - but then anyone is compared to me). We have gone with Eset which we are very impressed with

I will let you know how I get on guys !
Apart from my first year of having a pc when I had a free subscription to Norton, I've used the freebies. My first pc was some time ago and it was Windows ME, almost 15 yrs ago!

I use my pc every day and also use it for gaming.

The free ones I've tried are MSE, Comodo, Kaspersky and AVG. I keep returning to AVG because it just seems to work fine. It has caught and quarantined a couple of viruses (virii?) so I know it's always on the case.

Nortons fine, although at one time it got a poor reputation for slowing a pc's performance.

If you bank online check they haven't got a special deal for customers.
I had Norton for 7 years and never had any problems. Somebody suggested I change to the" Rolls Royce" of security... Kaspersky.!! I had that for a year and had nothing but trouble for the whole year. I now have AVG free and have had that for a year. I think it's excellent. No complaints.

My post here would seem to be relevant (although you might like to ignore my reference to Kaspersky!):

You do NOT need to pay for security software!
