Cost Of Software Repair On Laptop

My friend has reported a software problem on their laptop. They believe that adware/malware has infected their system and want advice on a cleanup. Has anyone an idea of cost that a laptop repair outlet would charge to investigate? I just don't have the time at the moment and they live too far away to travel. TIA.

Tell your friend to download the free edition of Malwarebytes and run a scan. Do Not accept an offer of the Premium edition and make sure that there are Not any boxes ticked for other items. Save the file to downloads, run from there to install and the do a scan which can take a half hour or more.

The scan will identify any malware which is then quarantined and can be removed with a few mouse clicks.

Get them do download Malwarebytes (free) and to run that.

That may sort it out.

if it seems it is only a software problem.few things to try
do a system restore to a date before having problem.
or download and run malwarebytes and let it scan all laptop and remove the problems
or try run in safemode and do an antivirus scan

all thiese cost nothing and would sort out the problems

I always turn off System Restore before restarting the computer after cleaning with Malwarebytes - some nasties reinstall themselves from System Restore.

Only when clean after a scan after the restart do I turn back on System Restore.

Great advice thanks. They are not that computer literate but I am sure will be able to get malwarebytes downloaded and running.
