Win 7 Updates Failures

seems some hundreds of win7 users are having update failures , my laptop has no probs but my friends pc win7 has had this for weeks both on auto updates, ive tried dozens of remedies from web sites including Microsoft but non work. if you google "error 800700C1" you see the problem. has anybody had this and solved it ?

well before my friend carries out the gargantuan task with all the updates need going tell him to try this

My desktop gadgets mysteriously disappeared after being updated by MS.
The explanation was that this was making my computer 'vulnerable'. Beware - Microsoft need users to order now or buy their Windows 10 which is due out next month. It is Windows 8 but with the popular Windows 7 start bar, plus I suspect a few new unwanted additions. Incidentally, I managed to get my desktop gadgets back!
