Low Hard Drive Space!

My computer informs me that I am running very low on hard drive space. The thing is there are two other hard drives showing in "my computer" both apparently healthy and with loads of space. I get the feeling though that
i am going to have to do something (i don't know what) to enable one or other of these drives to work! Any help will be very welcome and thank you for any answers, John.

Have you tried copying something to one of these mystery drives?

No mater what type of computer you have, as you use it, the space will fluctuate due to temporary files.

If its a Windows computer, you may have the system restore set to use a huge chunk of space.

Why do you think these other two drives are not working ? They show in "my computer" which is a reasonable indication that they work already.

If you store all your stuff on the C: drive it will fill up eventually. You need to change application setting to save on one of the other drives, or reinstall applications presently on C: onto one of the other drives.

The details vary but it's a case of moving stuff from the drive that is near full to one that has plenty of space.

Also housekeeping. Delete anything you don't need. Uninstall applications you don't use.

You don't mention your disk sizes and how much is used. Download an application that will scan your drive for you and tell you what it using what.

Your other drives are working, you're just not using them! Move all your music, photos, videos, documents to the other unused drives.

Assuming you have a Windows machine we can tell you how to automatically send your libraries to a different drive to clear up the C: drive if you tell us the OS you are using - XP, Windows 7, etc

I had a Windows 8.1 machine and was shocked at how much space the system restore was using. I was able to delete all but the latest restore point and regained a LOT of hard drive space. Then I adjusted the settings so that it couldn't happen again.

'Shadow copies' was replaced by file history in W8.1, methyl, but I was specifically referring to system restore which I did indeed set to 5% of each drive.
