Is there a numeric keypad?

If so, ensure that the number lock is on. (With most keyboards/computers it's usually on by default). Hold down the Alt key, type 35 on the numeric keypad and release the Alt key.

thanks boys for your answers, both of which i\m sure work beautifully. However, i solved it by pressing everything in turn and worked out it was shift+3

^^^ If you want to follow O_G's route then go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.

(That's the path in Windows 7. It's similar in most other versions of Windows).
