Downloading A Film To My Linx Tablet - Help!

I have just stated to use YouTube Downloader to download some films to my 7" Linx tablet. there is no problem downloading them but............

When I play them back they seem too big for the screen! ie perfect reproduction in vision and sound but it seems in closeup insomuch as sometimes parts of the characters heads seem to be chopped off at lower end and the title of the film at beginning and credits are right at bottom of page.

On a TV I could alter the screen eg square - widescreen etc - but what am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much - problem solved!
That VLC download did the trick as I set it as my default video player and worked ok with films correct 16:9, 14: etc.
Also can set to full screen play and other actions - brilliant!!
