Blocked Sink - Grrrrr

GOt home from work to find the kitchen sink half full of water and no plug in it.

Tried the plunger but it just squirts out the overflow, soaks my arm and then lands back in the sink.

Given I have a drippy tap, I really need to drain this off somehow else I shall wake up in the morning to an indoor swimming pool.

Please help, I've had a long day and I do not think exposing my cats to the current level of industrial language I am using is very fair..............

Use a coat hanger or skewer to poke a hole in the gunk and to allow the water to drain.

Once drained pour some bicarb of soda into the plug hole poking some down into the pipe, top up with vinegar (white is best but malt will do) leave for 30 mins and them flush with boiling water.

Have you checked that it is the sink that is blocked and not the drain outside?

Block the overflow by holding a wet flannel/cloth firmly against it while using the plunger.

Scoop as much water out as possible into a bucket.
Under the sink put a bowl under the trap and unscrew it to see if that's where the problem is.

Block the overflow with a cloth,sponge anything first. You defeat the object of the plunger otherwise. Re plunge again. Good luck

Well, we have a result!

I dont know if the outside drain is blocked. It's dark out there and I cba to go in the garage to find the crowbar to lift the drain.......

Robinia - nice idea, but I draw the line at anything "plumbing related". I'd take it to bits and never get it back together again........

Thanks to all of you and particularly those you suggested the wet cloth trick. Three plunges with the plunger and there was a big gurgle and the water disappeared.

Bicarb and vinegar now in there. That fizz is quite interesting......

Shall leave for 30 mins and then stick some hot water down there.

Well done Bm...many moons ago I had to dismantle the plumbing to unblock my sink on the hottest day of that particular year. The memory still haunts me. Yuk.

Just to finish the job barmaid, boil a full kettle of hot water and pour that down the plughole, 2 or 3 times if you have time.

Try putting down soda crystals down the sink regulary cheap as chips,you can get them at wilkos.
