Thunderbolt Wire
8 Answers
I have just bought a Seagate backup hard drive for my Mac. The connection is very slow. I have been advised to get a Thunderbolt connection. I cannot find any information anywhere. So far I have only found a HDMI Thunderbolt wire for TV. Does anybody know what I need to order and what is it? Hellllp! Bram

Appears to me you need to look for the lightning symbol on the back or side

If your mac is 2010 it is unlikely to have Thunderbolt, but it will have a Firewire 400 or 800 input slot. That will be faster than a standard USB, which I am guessing came with your external disk. Did any other cables come with the hard drive?
If you tell us what Mac you have (click on the Apple symbol, top left and then about this Mac), and what model your external disk is, we will see if there is a faster transfer option.

Gromit, My apologies for the delay in replying but the referendum rather knocked the wind out of my sails! I have looked at About this Mac and cannot see any reference to an external disk.It says No Thunderbolt connected. I see that I do have a Firewire Bus with a max. speed of 800Mb/sec.. Does this tell you what you need to know? With best wishes, Bram
