is nagging me that my free trial expires in 19 days, and is mithering me to pay £19.99 for "complete protection". It lists about 20 wonderful things I get for my 20 quid, then reminds me that the "standard protection" just blocks viruses and spyware.
Any advice please?

Click the Avast icon at the bottom right of your screen. (It's an orange circle with a curled up letter 'a' in it). Click the cog wheel at the top right of the panel. The 'General' section will probably already be pre-selected. (If not, click on 'General' at the top left). Click to put a tick against 'Silent/Gaming Mode'. Click 'OK'.

Hi Bathy - hope you are keeping ok.

Just want to say I am getting mithered re mine too.

Will await some helpful replies.
I used to get that and just ignored it.I now get told I have full protection!!!
Standard protection is fine for domestic systems - just look for the (small) button that says 'continue' or 'standard' or whatever, rather than accepting the paid version.

Dx
So Sunny - are you saying you can get the protection for free?
Hiya Baths..we've had this.. we've also stuck to the basic free package.. thats all you need.. the 'so called hackers' aren't interested in us.. they want the challenge of breaking through all the vast security stuff..admittedly..we don't do on-line banking.. but find Avast is the best on-line protection we've ever had.. good luck..have a nice weekend Mrs C x
Just continue with the 'standard' version - you don't need the 'complete' version.

Can't lead you through the process step by step, because I'm using an iMac now, rather than a Windows PC/laptop.
I upgraded to the paid two year package because it was on special at my computer shop - fine for the first year but on the anniversay of the installation I had the most horrendous problems - it wouldn't take the continuation code so I ended up in the shop three times before I told them to uninstall it and put in the free one. Had no problems since.

You do not need to pay for the upgrade just stick with the version that you have. Some one may correct me, but I am pretty sure, that if you are online banking, that the bank itself will provide its own Trusteer Endpoint download from IBM for protection against hackers and suchlike. Hi Baths hope you are feeling well and continuing to get even better.
Avast is not anywhere in my top 10 antivirus

## £19.99 for "complete protection" ##

Afternoon Baths, hope your recovery is going OK. xxx

I'm surprised your worrying about a measly £19.99, because when I last looked in your bank account you were loaded? :-)
Yes Bathy - have been paying for Avast for the 3-4 years I have had it. Now I will ignore.

I'm good - just on my way out for fish and chips at my favourite chippy.

Keep good and look after yourself cos there's only one of you. xx
Oh PS - And you're worth it LOL

Hi Togo, sorry I didn't reply. Yes, my NatWest has some sort of protection, and I'm feeling better day by day, thanks :)

In addition I'd uninstall java if you have it and set flash to use on demand. Be wary of clicking on links or attachments in emails even if sent from a friend. Regarding Avast you can stop 'nagging' pop-ups by selecting silent gaming mode.
Question Author
Hi TTG. Don't think I have Java, but could be wrong.
Ooh! Please tell me how to "select silent gaming" mode :)
