What comprises uploads in internet usage? On one day recently my upload usage jumped from my usual, negligible, amount to around 1750 Mb - a lot for me. Uploads do not count in my internet allowance, but I am curious as to why this should happen. I always thought that uploading was sending info or pictures by email or direct to photo storing sites, etc.

Does your device have an automated back up system like iCloud or equivalents. That syncs your contacts, settings, bookmarks etc.
Pretty much.

Upload is when your PC sends a file or other data to somewhere else on the Internet.

Download is when somewhere on the Internet sends you PC data. Could be a file, or a webpage for you to look at, whatever.

If you can not identify the reason for sending more data then maybe you need to keep an eye on it. Perhaps, for peace of mind, run a virus scan and a malware scan. 1.7 Gig is quite a bit. (Did you connect to another PC via the Net ? I've found out that runs up data use.)

Hi - thanks for interest. I have only a desktop pc - no Smartphone or any other internet device. My photos are all on Picasa, which program is, I presume, confined to my pc.
Do you have a Picasa web album you loaded a load of pictures to so friends & family can see them ?

OG - I have Super Antispyware and Malwarebytes - nothing untoward reported, but I'll run further scans.
