You could get Windows to check it. Right click and choose to test.

right click what og, i cant see a test button,only a check option in tools

That's what you want. It won't test the system disc with the system running, so it will ask you if you want to check it next time you start the computer - yes.
There is also an option to replace bad sectors - allow this as well. Hard discs always have a few unused, spare sectors. If you allow the last option if a sector is iffy the computer will copy the data on it onto one of the spare sectors and then use that sector in future.

Right click the hard disk symbol when using explorer.
