I am thinking of building a PC for my granddaughter who is 4 at the moment.
She already hijacks mums laptop but it is only a matter of time until it suffers a fatal accident :-)
I was going the mini desktop route because by definition it isn't portable and is less prone to damage.
Any parents/grandparents out there with any thoughts?

I would have thought that a tablet was much more use. There are hundreds if not thousands of educational apps.
i have to agree - tablets are also portable and cheap. My 4 year old has a fire for kids and it came with a 2 year "they break it, we replace it" guaruntee

Thanks but she is already on her 3rd Tablet and at the moment none have lasted more than 6 months. I may look into the " if you break it we replace it"
Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
this is the one she has, although i remember it being cheaper than that - i think i bought it in the run up to christmas when they discount things

The subscription cost after the first year is £60 PA.
I can make a cheap PC for under £300
the subscription cost for what? if you mean fire for kids, we have never used it (even when it was free!). If the child is to have a wired pc you need to think about (and consult with the parents) where she is going to use it. Do the parents want her off on her own using a computer?
I know what you mean as far as tablets are concerned. One of my grandchildren persistently seems to ruin tablets in no time at all. I'm cheesed off taking them into uni for repair and the technicians are beginning to give me some funny looks!

Still, I'd recommend you take a look at the following link:

I've bought some stuff from them recently and I'm more than happy with the quality and price. Their products are as good as new and the great Buenchico put me on to them. Don't spend 300 quid building a laptop for a four year old child. This outfit will supply you with something reasonable for half the price or even less.
