Can't Use Windows Taskbar After Update
8 Answers
Hi Overnight my laptop (HP) has updated Windows 10 and it has locked the taskbar. I've googled how to unlock without success as solutions suggest right clicking which I can't do. It won't open my menu on the windows icon or date/time or updates folder. The whole taskbar is locked. I have run the Windows powershell scan now which one user suggested and got the response 'Windows did not find any integrity violations'.
Any suggestions please?

Hi ruggief - the link below seems to detail the same problem you have & has a couple of suggestions, the 1st being the most straightforward -

Can't help, but can sympathise, that latest large update left me with all sorts of issues, several defaults were altered which took me a week to get everything running as I like it. 'System Restore' could not get prior to the update, I hope you don't find any more snags.
I think my next computer will be an apple mac, on which, so my daughter tells me, nothing like this ever happens.

I am still avoiding Windows 10 and, without any real problems, am continuing operating both my Desktop Pc and Laptop on Windows 7.
From what I have read, Windows 10 updates can cause all sorts of problems. It does appear that, for the updates to be fully effective without problems ensuing, it is necessary for equipment to be fully shut down and that can mean the Mains Plug being pulled out on everything and all lead/cables being disconnected and then after, say 10minutes or so, everything being reconnected.( Even removing the Battery from a Laptop could be necessary)
Why I don't know but apparently it does work in most instances.
Hans.

Thanks for all help, I have managed to start it in safe mode and the taskbar now works however my driver for the printer has been deleted and it is very slow. Processor can't keep up with me typing this message. It took 28 seconds to open Chrome and 9 seconds to open the icon to change wifi network. The blue circle is spinning on both the windows I have open and typing this message is only letting me do fa few words at a time and they are not showing as I am typing they appear after a few seconds delay. The laptop is less than a year old and was working before the Windows 10 update. Any suggestions as to why it is so slow now appreciated. Many thanks
