Epson Printer Ink Problems

Posted this in the wrong section, so having another try in the right one.

I have an epson printer, several years old, which has always had non genuine ink cartridges in after the ones that came with it ran out. they have always been recognised, but this time, the printer simply will not recognise them.

I have tried several workarounds, switching on and off, removing from the mains, putting each cartridge in separately and powering off in between, cleaning the microchips, using two different packs of cartridges, replacing one of the old ones then putting in the new ones. nothing seems to work.

before i take it outside and take a hammer to it, does anyone have any suggestions. I am not about to pay £28 for a set of genuine cartridges, as the printer itself only cost £40. So not too expensive to buy a new one, but i would like to try everything on this one before it give up.

I was in the same situation & bought a new printer, used up the carts that came with it & carried on with the compatibles - obviously, I bought the same model printer, as the compatibles' chips won't work across all models from one manufacturer.

If you've accepted any software/firmware updates from Epson since you've had it working with the compatible carts, that *might* be the cause - I've always thought it was what happened to mine.

Since installing mine, I've ignored the update messages - in fact, it's possible to disable them altogether. "Which?" put this out a couple of years ago, but it's inconclusive -

I'm sorry that's not much immediate help, I hope someone can suggest something other than all the steps you've already tried.

everyone apparently has this problem
and it should make you think twice about buying another

I went thro all the stuff on the internet and then bought another set

usually coincides with the need to submit a tax return

uninstall everything epson, then reinstall from the cd they gave you with the printer, and do not except any updates for it via the net

you only really need the driver, and not use the sofware print software

That's interesting about the updates. I did have an update just recently and let it load as i thought it may make the printer non functional if i didn't. looks like i might have made the printer non functional because i did.

Oh well, lesson learned. We have had it for some years now, and recently had a fatal error problem although epson online support did get me through that. they won't help though with this problem as they say using non genuine inks might have caused other damage.

this ink business is a total racket i think. if the printer companies would make their inks a little more reasonably priced then perhaps people might be prepared to buy them, but when you are having to pay anything up to 4 or 5 times the price for a set of genuine inks no wonder the non genuine ones are so popular. its crazy when you can almost buy a new printer for the price of a set of ink. such a waste of resources.

I have read plenty of really bad reports online about epson, and advice as to buy another make. i know that HP will not allow for use of non genuine cartridges, does anyone know of a good make of printer where non genuine cartridges can be used successfully.
