I have just purchased an Epson R220 printer, but it had no USB cable with it.

My PC has the standard USB2 socket but the printer's is smaller. I tried to push-in what I thought was the correct size plug but it didn't seem to fit (don't worry- I was gentle and did no damage! Or does it possibly need a bit of brute force?)

Not knowing much about USBs are there just 2 different sizes of plug?

You need a standard USB printer cable, one end is a standard USB plug (for the computer) the other end is specifically for printers.

A USB cable does not have the same size plug both ends.

The end that plugs into the USB slot on the PC will be fairly flat and narrow, the end that plugs into the device will be square.

So to answer your question, only one type of USB cable, just different ends.

I know you said no more replies! But a local computer shop may be able to supply you with a small adapter plug which will connect your cable to your printer (that's how my Epson 200 (the forerunner of the 220) is connected. By the way, enjoy the 220, I'm sure that it is a fantastic printer (would like to know if it is much better than the 200 - no reviews as yet). Sorry to go on a bit!
