Hello All
I am 71 yr old who is having major problems with my laptop.
After dropping it down the stairs (not on purpose my i add) the harddrive stopped working,I got someone to take a look at it for me and was told it needed a new hd,I bought another one and put in and tried to install the windows 7 but i keep getting the message that there is no motherboard drivers installed, I have trolled the internet for the drivers on different sites, on a friends pc but i seem to be getting nowhere therefore i am asking for help to get these drivers for hp pavillio g6 1163sa,I am willing to pay for this,
Please can anybody help me
Sorry to say this but Windows 7 is no longer supported. Having said that, there probably are downloads out there. Do you think you could muster Windows 10? It would be better to upgrade to that.
When you get a new computer you are advised to create your on recovery discs. On top of that you can create a system image on DVDs or a second hard drive, which will enable you to recover from a disc failure. If you have to replace your computer you should bear that in mind.
If you search around you might still find that you can buy a refurbished laptop with Windows 7 on it - Buenchico has a favourite source of such machines.
Thanks Buenchico
when i bought the laptop new it did not come with any discs at all
I have been in touch with HP but there is no support for my laptop (2011) and the only reason i think about the drivers are is that the installation disc i have been given cannot be the genuine disc because when i put it in it starts to load files then asks for to load drivers which it will not do
HP suggested that i buy new installation from Amazon
I do not know what to do now
Being a person with dementia does not help either but thanks for your info
What worries me is that the physical damage to the laptop might have extended beyond the hard drive. If there's a crack in the motherboard it could cause major problems. Even a crack in the thermal bonding paste on the processor could cause the laptop to overheat easily.
It might be worth asking PC World if they can help. Normally I'd not recommend their services, as they charge a flat rate of £50 (plus parts, where required) for all laptop repairs. That often means that people get charged £50 for something which only takes a few seconds to fix. However if they could actually fix your laptop you'd probably be getting your money's worth.
Even so, since Bhg481 has suggested it (and I've already provided you with a link), looking for a reliable reconditioned laptop might actually be the best way forward.
I've just replied to this thread and my comments disappeared, so apologies if this is a repeat.
If you do end up replacing your laptop the new disc you have just bought need not go to waste. You can use it to create backups and/or a system image of your new laptop.
Extending Buenchico's last post - I had a Pavillion laptop which just slithered off the car onto the floor whilst in its padded case ie, not a heavy fall. The display went funny and, even after replacement, never properly recovered; after a few weeks it gave up altogether. Experts suggested it could be a cracked motherboard so I gave up to it and replaced it.
For the driver issue, I think you can try to download a free drivers update software to help you, for your laptop, it may not solve your problem 100%, but you can try. Because it will more convenient.
There are several popular free drivers download software in CNET such as Driver Easy and Driver Booster.
Download them and scan for your laptop to let them to help you identify which drivers you are missing. And then you can decide how to fix it.
^^^ Those download won't be of any use to Roizee2009, Jerfrank, because he'd need Windows on his laptop to use them - and he can't get Windows onto his laptop because of the missing drivers!
Thanks Buenchico
for your last post you was explaining to jerfrank,I dont think i could have explained it better to him myself the way you put it.
I think in the end i will be purchasing from the link you gave me.
Thanks again.
