ps2 not working

I asked a question last week regarding my PS2 not working. Everytime we put in a disc, it makes a funny whirring noise and only shows Disc Read Error. No matter if we change disks or put in dvd's it still shows the same thing. I was told to remove the memory card and try putting the PS2 upside down as sometimes this works - still no joy!! We have even used a disk cleaner to no avail. Please can you hel me as i have a very upset 12 year old daughter itching to play The Sims!! Thank you in advance and anticipation!! x

possibly needs the laser replaced, probably will be expensive, try a sony approved repair shop, they will advise.

Its more than likely to be the laser - sony built them with quite poor quality lasers and so loads of playstation 2s have stopped working due to this problem. Ironically they haven't imporoved the laser design so it'll prob. break down again with the same problem after another spell of working correctly when the lasers been replaced!

This happened to mine. After trying for ages to get the uk sony playstation helpline number you can get this by looking in the back of games manuals. In the list it says the uk number is not working or somthing!!!. Dont matter ring it and it will put you through. After trying for 5 mins with guy that no matter what you do even hoovering it, it still wont work. They then take the PS number from the back and say you can do 2 things number 1 is give them �80 and they will try and fix it but that can take up to 4-6 weeks and it still might not work or number 2 is give them �60 and in 3 days they will come round and swap it with a recon. I did this and the guy arrives and you have to give him your PS2 and 1 sony controller and the leads then he will give you same same back but it is a recon (all shiny and new smelling).

If you look on the web there has been loads of court cases in the US because of this they say you should'nt have to pay anything because the lasers are poor. The US won and now sony has to do it for free minus the P&P.
