Help To Recover Corrupted Files, After Recovery Software
3 Answers
years ago i last used my 2TB MyBook WD hd drive, ive had 2 and found them both unreliable so they sit on a shelf unused
however, ive lost some old work and so im going back over all my drives, SD cards etc and searching them and also running recuva
on this drive, i've found loads of files and some have given me me back some of the lost files, however loads appear to be there, they have a page count, an MB size but when i open them, all there is, is pages and pages of this -
###################################################################################################################################################################################################################################################################
so this symbol replaces every letter in the doc
so does anyone know how i can turn them back into the proper files?
i think there are some files on the drive that are from a previous Recuva attemptt but i cant remember
also most of the pics are named, have an MB size and a file extension - jpg etc - but when they open it just says 'unsupported file format' etc
any ideas is any of this is salvageable?
im on win 10
thanks :)

I've experienced 'unsupported file format' messages with jpeg images when the problem has been nothing more than an unrecognised file name. (e.g. the inclusion of a foreign character or a punctuation mark). Simply renaming those files (e.g. to test1.jpg, test2.jpg, etc) has fixed the problem for me on several occasions.
