Unable To Accelerate After Braking.

On two occasions after braking during long motorways journeys my car, a 1.7 Diesel, is unable to accelerate back up to it’s previous speed and seems to lack any power. On both occasions I managed to cruise off the motorway at the next junction, turn the engine off, wait a few minutes before proceeding. The car was checked and serviced after the first time but it occurred again over this weekend. No warning lights, no engine splutters, fuel from differing stations and no other common link other than driving on the motorway, braking followed by trying to accelerate. Where and what should I look at and test next? Thanks

or you aren't pedalling enough - as with Fred Flintstone... get a scanner on it.....

When you brake the ecu detects a signal from the brake light circuit and cuts off the fuel...to save some.You could have an issue with this system.It may need a OBDII scanner to confirm.
Could be a problem with the Air Mass Flow Meter. I've replaced these on an Audi A4 & VW Golf. Cost about £40. If you can get electronic diagnostics on it there might be a fault code telling you what the problem is - not all faults give a dashboard warning light.

It sounds like a faulty sensor or solenoid.
Did they replace the fuel filter at the last service...some supermarket fuels can be dirty and so the filters may need changing more often than suggested by the manufacturer.
Another possibility is a leaking boost pipe on the turbo.
...or a restricted intercooler....or a restricted intercooler pipe.:-)

Filter was replaced and no fault codes (I have checked on a device I have as did the mechanic on my request). Will check as suggested this weekend or get a new pair of running trainers. Wiiiiiiiiiilma!
I once suffered something similar which was due to a faulty brake servo unit applying the brakes. Next time it happens eliminate this to be the fault by feeling each wheel hub for excessive temperature rise.
sounds like the turbo is up the pictures, next time drop it down a gear, probably bogging in the gear you braked down from.

I had the air mass flow meter fail - very similar symptoms to yours. I thought I'd lost the turbo but the garage diagnosed it correctly and saved me a fortune.
