Android Tablet
6 Answers
My aunt has a fairly old Samsung 10" Android tablet that's running very slow. Most of the 32Gb storage on the device has been used up. Recently when browsing the web, she tells me that multiple browser windows sometimes open up with adverts etc on them. Now I know that all this sort of stuff can be stopped with the likes of Malwarebytes etc on a PC, but given the reduced capacity of the tablet to install apps now, is there a good online scanner/removal tool she could use? I think she also needs a good ad-blocker but I'm not sure what to recommend.
The tablet is running Anroid 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) and she has had to stop it updating to maintain space. My Samsung Tab A has an inbuilt app to optimise its performance by clearing the cache, memory etc but there's nothing similar to this on her tablet.
Many thanks.

There is a browser, Kiwi Browser, which is based on Chrome and has built in ad and pop-up blockers and allows you to use a lot of desktop Chrome extensions. Now for a disclaimer - I have not tried it, so can't tell you how good, bad or indifferent it is, but there is a review of it at a site I trust here https:/ /www.te chsuppo rtalert .com/co ntent/k iwi-bro wser.ht m
The other thing I would suggest is going through the individual apps on the phone and deleting any cache or memory they are using which seems excessive. No idea how you do that on 6.0.1 as I've never used that version of Android, but the details will be available somewhere online.

Personally I use a Samsung Tab S with 32gb .. it is by far my favourite piece of IT equipment. It has almost instant page loading when browsing. It beats my PC and my laptop, hands down !
One thing I dont do, is use it for is storage, why would you, when you have Cloud and Google Photos available for free. Just make sure you do a backup once in a while Should I have the any concern at all about a change in speed, I dont hesitate and do a factory reset. It takes all of 10-15 minutes to set it up again. Basically just set my wi-fi password up and off you go.
When you say 'she has multiple windows open' .
.. suggest she closes them.
For the past couple off years I have not seen a single advert or popup simply by using the Brave browser.
Doing these few things will optomize the performance of the tablet and the last thing it should be .. is slow !
