Audacity Program For Editing
hi all, hope you can help .
I am trying to set up a series of intro's for a quiz .
I have downloaded audacity & seem to have no problem isolating a section of a downloaded track .
it then says once portion of track selected go to EDIT > REMOVE SPECIAL > TRIM AUDIO . of the 4 options available ,only SILENCE AUDIO is obtainable , not TRIM AUDIO ( faded letters )
any ideas please ?

You're doing it the hard way! Highlight the bit of the track you want to retain and then EITHER click the 'Trim' button (illustrated here: https:// tinyurl. com/ s2sqr3s ) OR press Ctrl and T together. Job done! As you're new to Audacity, I'll try to anticipate your next problem, which is that you won't find a 'Save' button to save the edited track that you've just created. It's 'Export' (from the 'File' menu) that you need to use.

hi thanks for this advice .
I wasn't highlighting the section , simply using the cursor .. dumb ! . it's an excellent program .
I have no problem getting an intro onto computer now ( ie. from the very beginning of a track ) but I don't seem to be able to get a mid section from a track as it plays with silence from the beginning up to the highlighted piece then plays this OK . I am using highlighting/cursor same as intro & piece I require is definitely " isolated/highlighted " OK . rest of track seems clear .
any thoughts ?
really grateful for help /interest .. thanks ./

Thanks for the BA but I think I might have accidentally misled you when I referred to the 'Export' function:
If, after using 'Trim', you simply use 'Export Audio', you'll end up with a track that's got silence either side of the bit you want. What you need to do (with the bit you want still highlighted) is to choose 'Export Selected Audio'. That will only save the highlighted section to a new file, without the silences. (That should actually work without even bothering with 'Trim' at all, although I prefer to usre it first myself).
