Cannot Access Word

I decided to stick with Microsoft 365, as I had no success installing Open Office despite all the good advice. I have just installed it on my laptop, received notice that it's been successful, tried to open Word but although a new document appears I cannot type in it. Also seems to be telling me that my trial has expired - well I know that, that's why I renewed it! I tried following the File/Account route, but no Reactivate appears (or at least I can't find it). I'm sure I must be missing something simple, but I'd be grateful for advice.

Have you tried Libre Office ?? Been using it for years, excellent.

No success with that either. Almost certainly my ignorance, but now that I've got Microsoft 365 I need to use it.

I use Libre, too - it is the tech mags favourite these days.

Yes, that was all fine. It's successfully installed, I just can't get get Word to work.

Go to File> Options > General > Right at the bottom of the list untick Show the start screen when this application starts

Right, done that, thank you. Now I have to figure out how to show my seven blank documents so that I can delete them...I think perhaps a couple of hours glaring at the screen this afternoon will be required.

You can now use Word as normal?

Not entirely, because I haven't yet worked out how to find the list of documents (or in my case blank documents, as every time I tried to type something a new one opened). However, I can type, though the layout isn't right yet. I've just noticed that Word is offering me a virtual tour, so I'll have a look at that and make a few notes in real writing...
