Should be, but some Apple customers are claiming this a ruse by Apple to force consumers to accept the update which, they claim, will slow their device to a crawl which will 'encourage' them to buy the latest device.

My iphone is set for automatic updates but just checked in settings and it found an update 15.6.1 needed for security reasons. Its running now; I advise everyone to check too just to be safe.
Yes, just found that my work iPhone needed that update too!
The stupidity of Apple systems means that unless I put bank card details in, it shows as an incomplete set-up, leaving a notification icon on the app button so it looks like there's an update when there isn't.

Software updates are not done through the App store, they are done through your settings. Click on the cog icon, go to General and then Software. The updates are free so no credit card is needed.
