We are in a state of upheaval at the moment and my Acer laptop was unplugged. I have just switched it on and got a message saying that the battery was extremely low. By the time I found the plug and lead it was completely dead. It has been charging for about 2 hours but nothing seems to have changed. Is it completely dead?

Could be the charger.
Try taking the battery out and plugging the mains lead in. If it comes on without the battery in then it's the battery that's knackered. Also try another charger.

Thank you Tora Bit above me that I'll have to get my grandson to help me
I took the dead battery out ages ago and just plug into the mains.
Try taking the charger out, plug it back in and hold the on switch down for a while. Ages ago mine showed signs of life doing that.
Is this one of the small Acer laptops that has an internal battery? (One that does not have an easily removable battery.) It is actually fairly easy to replace the battery on these but needs someone capable of taking the back off the machine using a suitable very small screwdriver.

Thank you all for trying to help an old lady :-)) My grandson is hopefully calling in tomorrow I'll let you know how I get on
Always best to get a teenager involved in such things.
Any update? Are you up and running? Hope grandson was able to help.

Well the answer is the mother board (?) is knackered His word not mine. Apparently it would cost in excess of £100 but I would still gave an old computer He thinks that it would probably be better for me to put that towards a new one. Mr GG says I can have one as an early Christmas present
How old is your laptop?
Thanks for the update. My Acer was the same. Had it looked at and was told it was probably the hard drive and a new one would be about £100. Told him I'd think about it. Like you said it's £100 towards a brand new laptop. At home I connected the charger again and gave the on switch a long press. I could feel life but a blank screen. Then suddenly a banner popped up if I wanted to do a factory reset press F something or other. So I did, nothing to loose.
I ended up having to redownload a lot. I mainly used that laptop for watching Sky Sports so I downloaded the App again and it worked perfectly.
