Annoying Pop Up Advertisement.

Hello. I have to report an annoying pop up advert that ruins the enjoyment for me. Often on any subject a vertical advert appears on the left hand side of the page. This would normally be bearable but often this advert obscures part of the question or answer. Can this be amended?. Thank you.

I am using a Toshiba laptop and do not know anything about browsers. The advert is a vertical box about five-six inches long and is " Ads by Google ". It obscures part of the writing on the page. I have tried clicking and stopping the ad with no effect, this time it says " Ad closed by Google ", lets hope so.
