I have fully completed the crossword but I cannot submit it. I presume it is something to do with the format of the "themed word". I have tried all lower case, all upper case and even lower case with an uppercase initial letter.

Has anybody else had the same problem and managed to work out what needs to be done to submit?

Hi jj. I haven't attempted this, But I have had a quick look. The page layout looks a little different to what I remember.
I have noticed a :

'You need to register once and then sign in to theguardian.com to enter our online competition for a £100 monthly prize.

Click here to register.'

Just after the preamble, Just checking if you have already done that (Or has it been there for some time) Just a thought :-)

Could this be it ? I don't know if the thematic word needs an asterisk ??

Same problem here. Tried WORD(8) too. I tried appending @here.here in case the web page thought it should be an email address, and it accepted that. Presumably that will be marked wrong, though.

Yes has to think it is an email address

I typed "word"@outlook.com and it accepted!

Probably disqualifies me from this month's competition
