Hi,
I run Windows XP and I have lots of music MP3's stored in a Music File.

I like to make up music compilation CD,s by burning the MP3's using Nero (new copy). I then play the CD's in my car.

However I noticed recently that some of the MP3 music files on my PC are not playing properly...they are stopping sometimes half way thru or making a clicking noise sometimes.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem ?

Finally I need Windows XP because its the only operating system that lets me run Photo Suite 4 editing programme.

Is it by any chance the songs burned towards the end of the list?

No the MP3 tracks which are faulty are stored on my p.c.
and they are in random places. Thanks

I'm worried about that clicking noise. It's making me wonder whether there might be a fault developing with your hard drive. (They don't last for ever and any hard drive on a Windows XP computer is bound to be fairly old).

Click the 'Start' button and select 'Run'.

Type 'cmd' into the box and press 'Enter'.

When the command prompt window opens, type this:
chkdsk C: /r
and press 'Enter'

That will check for any errors on your hard drive, and repair them, as well as checking for, and reporting, any bad sectors on the drive.

ok I see. Can you copy them on to a USB stick and play them elsewhere to see if they play on another device?
