Uninstall Chrome. Restart your PC. Use a registry cleaner to remove every last trace of Chrome from your computer. (My recommendation for the job is Glary Utilities: https:/ /www.gl arysoft .com/ ). Restart your PC again. Install Chrome again. Import your bookmarks and passwords.
Alternatively, consider switching to Slimjet, which is basically a much-improved version of Chrome (which doesn't try to tie you to Google for everything). I've been using it for several years and I love it:

Thanks for your post.
Unless things have changed since I installed Slimjet, when you first install it you'll find your home page filled with 'tiles' providing links to websites that you probably don't want. Don't be put off by it. Simply follow my instructions, at the foot of this page, to get Slimjet looking how you want it to:

Note that Slimjet blocks ads by default. If you want to reverse that on a particular site, click on the hand-in-a-circle at the top right to find the option to disable the ad blocker.
Any extensions that work with Chrome can also be added to Slimjet through Settings (= the cog wheel at the top right) > Extensions.
