problems with downloads

I am running windows xp and when the latest norton update or windows update downloads i then cant send or receive any mail from outlook. I did a system restore and this removed sp2 but do not understand why the Norton download is causing a problem Any ideas? Thanks

I would guess that one of the updates either changed your firewall settings or installed a new one, WIndowns XP SP2 Does come with it'ss own firewall i think. You would need to change the firewall settings in windows/norton to allow outlook incoming/outgoing access to the net.

Hi theren - thanks for your help, i will download the windows one again and take a look at the settings and if the firewall is turned on will turn it off again however, what can i do about the Norton one what should i turn off please, as i obviously need a firewall on. Your help is greatly appreciated
