I'm assuming you want to create a shortcut on your desktop for just one website, so when you double click on it, it takes you straight to the website?
If so:

Open chrome and go to the website.

At the top right hand corner, click on the 3 dots and scroll down until you see "save and share".

In there click on "create shortcut".

You'll have the option of renaming it.  It will put a shortcut on your desktop so that when you double click on it, it will open at your selected page.

I hope this is what you're after?

Or you could highlight the link and drag and drop it on to your desktop

As Barry suggests, if the link is already on your bookmarks toolbar, click the overlapping boxes at the top right of Chrome (in between - and x) to reduce the size of the window.  Then simply drag & drop the link from the toolbar onto your desktop.

I drag it from the address bar, works the same way

^^^ True enough.
