I thought it was only in this country we have bad water quality due to the water companies and the nasty tories.

The fact that the French have issues with river water quality doesn't make the state of our systems any less scandalous.

More than half of Spain'a water bodies did not meet 'good' status this year. Germany's rivers are polluted by chemical and sewerage discharge.   Where there is people there is pollution, regardless of government.

Under-investment in infrastucture needed for increasing populations. It will probably get worse.

Liebours housing boom should not go ahead without guarantees that local infrastructure will be upgraded to cope with the extra.

Is their system nationalised or private ?

wiki -

//Today, according to the Ministry of Environment 75% of water and 50% of sanitation services in France are provided by the private sector, primarily by two firms, Veolia and Suez. In 1993 the Loi Sapin strengthened competition in the sector by limiting the duration of contracts to 20 years, among others.//

All large Towns and Cities have this problem.  All tend to have antiquated sewage systems that were designed for a much smaller population, its actually testiment to those that deseigned them that they still cope - just.

However with increasing immigration, legal and illegal, the strain is going to get exponentially worse.

If I were in government most people would despise me.

I'd ban flush toilets and impose compost toilets.  They are clean, easy to use, don't smell and don't use water or sewers.

The biogradable bags would be collected and the compost used on farms and for biofuel.

Human waste is already used as fertiliser so there is nothing to get jittery about

hm

No groundswell of support for that then.

Why don't the organisers use indoor swimming pools? The water quality isn't left to chance there.

I'm not onboard with composting toilets but rainwater harvesting should be made compulsory in all new-builds & retro-fitted to existing properties where feasible.

I've got water butts, my old house had a rainwater tank under the kitchen with a pump next to the sink.

Where there is people there is pollution, regardless of government.

Where there is people there is poo - I wd say

er standing water butts are not obviously safe boys and girls-- but I am sure we really always knew thta
