The K M Links Game - April 2025 Week 4
Quizzes & Puzzles16 mins ago
I have just bought a new car. Everytime you go 1 mile over the speed limit or if you drive into a different speed zone, an alarm goes off. It us really distracting. At the beginning of every journey you can disable it but as soon as you turn the engine off it resets itself. You cannot permanently disable it as it us a European directive, a bit like the daytime lights. I can understand the reasoning but I find it quite annoying. Does anyone else share my frustration?

It too insists on defaulting to 'on' when it is just a $%^& nuisance, so has be there just to aggravate the driver. It's the same principle.
Plus there are loads of distracting and unnecessary alarms that will go off unexpectedly and at the worst pissible time. This speed one just being the latest.
It is my guess that every irritating new idea those in control can think of will be put on all cars in the most irritating manner possible to ensure that you can't get a decent alternative. At least not without importing a car from a nation with more sense: and likely imports of those for those who can afford it will then end up getting banned.
It's almost as if someone is trying to ruin the car market and ensure everyone stays at home and goes nowhere... almost.
I have a Honda CRV and the default is off, if you want to use it (I usually do) you have to set it yourself every time, the three bleep alarm is helpful rather than distracting, when it's working it disables the acceleration of the car to the speed limit but doesn't apply the brakes, so if you are going downhill you can still overrun the speed limit. There is another downside that you need to be aware of, if you go past a junction that has a lower speed limit on the adjoining road the speed limit detector might see it and the car unexpectedly decelerates but a quick press on the deactivate button allows you to carry on regardless.
