Question Author

Ah, thanks! Now on to all the unclued lights...

Question Author

I actually have 1 more clue I can't solve.

25A Model from Ford suggesting theme (4) K??A

Kuga, sounds like....

I've completed the "clued" grid, and have answers for 27A and 5 and 6D ("possible answers") but am getting nowhere with the rest of the theme. I don't watch much telly, but given the puzzle's title and those "possible answers" I'm guessing this might involve a show which featured Jimmy Carr and the late Sean Lock? Any hints appreciated.

LancastrianOik, it's definitely not that quiz show. I don't watch many either, so I ended up with two possibilities - but it didn't matter, I just formed a sentence, question anyway!

Question Author

I don't think so. If it helps, start the announcement at 20D.

'Feline'lead me to check out that quiz show, which I haven't seen either. The answer is about polling a certain number of people (two words in one unclued with 10 spaces). They have a certain length of time (ditto) to come up with.....the three other unclueds. I hope this helps.

It's a quiz and it features the following phrase repeatedly -

''20d [2 words] 39a (a certain number of) 18d (39a again) 24d (moments of time)''...

The programme has just been on the TV.

Just checking this one...

Question Author

Thank you, PiffPoff.

Question Author

Can anyone explain why Futile is in the title of this puzzle?

Futile means Pointless...!

Question Author

I know what futile means. What purpose does it serve in the title is what I wanted to know.

It's the name of the relevant quiz show, the second word in the title being the 'things' we're looking for...

Question Author

Ahh. I'm from the other side of the pond. Had to Google it just now. Thanks for the help!

You're welcome, PiffPoff - and maybe your location means 25 A was unfamiliar to you too? (I know nothing about car models, especially not those on the other side of the pond.)

Question Author

25A, yes, Neveracrossword. I'd never heard of it. But it's just an added challenge and I learn a lot. That was a fun puzzle.

Thanks, PiffPoff.
