... has collapsed should the government look to other countries to house what they see as a problem?

El Salvador seems willing to accommodate innocent deportees in a horrendous mega prison if the price is right.

Yes - send them anywhere that will take them, in large numbers & at minimal cost. I'm sure El Salvador will be happy to accept all the doctor/nurse/engineer/architect asylum seekers we are currently housing & not allowing to work. 🤣

No.  Absolutely not.  I'm waiting for an answer that both condemns our treatment of refugees and Trump's deportation of people who have a legitimate right to be in the USA.

The Rwanda scheme didn't collapse.  It was deliberately ditched by this government.

@13.49.Why is the word refugees not in inverted commas sandy?

Question Author

@14:57

No need for inverted commas as you well know.

"I'm waiting for an answer that...condemns our treatment of refugees..."

If you mean all of the young male illegal economic migrants who escape war-torn France and arrive on our beaches, then yes, I condemn how well they are treated, which in turn encourages other young male illegal economic migrants to escape war-torn France...and so on.

You'll know that these young people coming here is a legacy of empire.  We taught their great grand parents our language our moral standards, and our sense of fair play.

If you were escaping oppression in your homeland what better place is there to come to than here?

English has also become the Lingua Franca of much of the world.  So people who have no direct links still feel connected to us by the precious thread of language.

sandyRoe - not really arguable (the bit about language).  I am a native English speaker and yet I went to live in France for verious (including economic) reasons.  Languages can be learned.

Do stop with the violins, sandyRoe. They're not fleeing anything.  They come here because we're a soft touch.

What about the 3 Iranians who came here to escape persecution in Iran and then were given permission to go back there by the home office to visit and then allowed to come back here afterwards.  And this is one of many times this has happened.  If you left because you were frightened for your life why on earth would you want to go back for a visit.

// who escape war-torn France//

Please remind me when was the last time France was at war?

My memory is obviously different to yours.
