CMOS Bypass

Got an old motherboard but the CMOS chip is fried, how do I bypass this chip (I think its called MV RAM) with a CMOS battery?

I'm a little confused. You said the CMOS chip is fried...without the CMOS chip the motherboard will not function. Using a CMOS battery won't help.

The chip is not working i.e. won't remember the time, but I have seen it done where a battery placed around the chip provides the power to retain the CMOS settings, I assume it is because the Chip can no longer hold any charge, after being left uncharged for so long
