Which of these start up programs can I afford to UN tick...

My laptop (Windows XP Home) takes around 85 seconds to startup (which it never used to) I had a look at the startup list and I was wondering what the following programs do during startup and do I necessarily need to have them on??

1.Microsoft Office
2.Adobe speed launch
3.IMJPMIG
4.IMEKRMIG

Also I ran SpeedUpMyPc and it timed the various programs on startup.

The following 3 programs each took 9.09 seconds to start up:

c:\windows\system32\ime\tintlgnt\tintsetp.exe/imename

c:\windows\system32\ime\tintlgnt\tintsetp.exe/sync

c:\windows\system32\ime\pintlgnt\imscinst.exe/sync

Do I need them??

Also when I run msconfig the first of the 3 programs does not even show up on the startup list!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Well the first two are just there to "preload" the programs so that they seem to load quicker when you actually I need them. Unless you spend all day opening and closing these particular progs, I would remove them. No idea what 3 and 4 are, but they look awfully suspicious to me!

You can safely untick anything apart from anti-virus and anti-spyware.

Also check services, and hide all microsoft services, then look for anything suspicious

3 & 4 and the three 9.09sec entries are all to do with alternative character inputs to Microsoft Office suite. If you regularly produce documents using Chinese or Korean characters, then you might need them. If you don't, then you can disable them.

As an alternative to msconfig, I'd recomment Startup Control Panel which can be got for free from http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
It will show you all things that startup when your computer boots and lets you disable them.

As was said by mattie, you can disable anything except antivirus and firewall software, though you might want some other stuff like MSN Messenger or Skype to start automatically.

Do you use norton? I have come across quite a few cases of norton causing this exact behavior.... Have you run any spy ware removers to be on the safe side as this would be the first thing to try...
