It will only work for a week or so for free, but you will only need it for a few minutes. I had to run it twice in a row, but it worked. A work colleague of mine also used it for the same thing, but she couldn't get it to work at first. She emailed their support people who promptly emailed back the solution. She didn't have to pay anything either.
McAfee would have protected you from this.
Check your system32 folder for most recent files and you'll see; nvctrl.exe, a load of hpxxx.tmp files, another exe, some. tbl files. You acn't delete them -- they get re-created again.
It also makes registry changes which is why the about dll is sending you to the site.
reboot to safe mode with command prompt and run anti-virus from command line to clean your hard drive. Use McAffe anti-virus site info when the virus is identified (it's probably Puper) and manually edit registry as directed.
Have fun.
Download and Install the following free Applications. Start you PC in Safe Mode and run them all one after the other making sure that you remove everything that they find. When done you should be able to change your home page to whatever you want. If not post back

McAfee will not get rid of about blank.it's not that easy unfortunatley. If my solution doesn't work then I will direct you to a dedicated website that will ask you to install some software and post the result on to the site. You will then be told exactly what you need to remove to get rid of the nasty.
