I'm sure my laptop has a virus. i think its a trojan. there's an icon flashing next to the volume button and time. it flashes a wheelchair then a no-entry sort of sign. occasionaly it flashes up with a little box saying "your computer is infected, click here to download antimalware software"..i know it wants me to download this software but i'm nt prepared to download a program i havent heard of..how do i get rid of it? i've got ad-aware, spybot but no anti-virus software.

This is relatively new, try going to microsoft.com and downloading the malicious software removal tool.

Run msconfig, click the startup tab and look for anything suspicious. Check the services, tab next to startup, hide all microsoft services, and look for suspicious entries.

If you are running XP download and install defender from microsoft.
