Hi,

I want to send the odd fax via my pc. It's not worth signing up to one of the monthly/yearly subscription companies as it will only be once in a blue moon. Are their any companies that you can per per fax? Other option I guess is to go the post office or something do they still do that?

You can fax directly from your pc if you have Windows, and a dial up modem that you plug into your telephone line.

Most pcs do.

I have windows xp but use ntl broadband?
I have NTL BB - but occasionally hook up the dial-up modem to send a fax. I also have one of the free eFax accounts if anyone wants to send me a fax (the free accounts change numbers from time to time, though).

I don't have a modem I bought the computer from a friend who took the modem out.So I take that puts the lid on it then
I went through this recently and couldn't be bothered with signing up to a fax service or switching modems and the like so I bought an HP Deskjet 4200. Best buy I ever made printer wise. Fax, print, scan, copy, the lot all from PC. Just one drawback 99.99 from Argos but I recommend it

But you still need a phone line don't u?
You will always need a phone line to send a fax.

Post office it is then!

So even if I subscribed to say www.efax.com I still couldn't send faxes via them is that right?
efax is different.

You subscribe and are given a fax number for people to fax you - you receive the 'fax' as an email.

You also send 'faxes' as an email attachment after scanning into your pc.

This sort of fax is not acceptable to many organisations, as it is not a true facsimile of the original and can be altered.
