I recently joined Bt Broadband & the internet security package they gave with it was Norton Security System 2006.I don't have complaints with it just now but i've heard mixed reviews about Norton in general.

Has anyone had any problems with Norton? or is there a slightly better internet security system in your opinion out there that is free to download.

I was recently told that in some cases when you do a full system scan Norton will sometimes miss things?.Would this be right?.

Norton is pretty much universally known by tech people as being terrible. Not only is it a far way behind other, better products (Kaspersky, for instance), but it also slows your system down a fair bit.

This is a good example:

Personally I use AVG Free and have never had any trouble with it. I combine it with ad-aware personal and kerio personal firewall (both free, too), and I've yet to ever have a virus or other attack on this computer.

nod32 seems to be better at heuristic testing, but overall i'd think that kaspersky performs better.
Wouldn't have it even in the house, let alone on the computer.
I have found that Norton Antivirus can conflict with other pieces of software and just freeze up. It can take ages to find out exactly which one causes the conflict. I took it off and have been OK since.
I have been using Nortons for the last 8 yrs since I started using computers and have never had a problem with conflict or other - I know it does slow the computer down a bit but never reallly worried me.
I don't know why BT are giving away NIS 2006 when they have their own security/antivirus software.
I use the BT one and have had no viruses.
However, I also work in IT, and know how to avoid viruses etc.
If you are going to pay for one I would recommend NOD32 coupled with Windows defender.
