warning pop ups on desktop

i keep getting pop ups that are warning me to fix my reg are these scams and can i get rid of them? i have done virus and spy whare checks ( nothing untowards )and its a brand spank ing new hard drive , they are really doing my head in . many thanks

thank you dodgeyshirt most helpfull i may not have take my pc to a very steep cliff and throw it off now ! lol ( that simple hey nothing wrong with it just spam!) : - )
